One of the most dangerous abuses of traffic laws is that of accelerating to get through a yellow light before it turns red.
If you risk it and push hard, you might save a whole minute or 2 from your commute. Hardly worth it, but that doesn’t stop us.
What you can do
When you’re on your motorcycle and the first in line waiting on the green light, wait 3 seconds before you begin to enter the intersection. At worst someone will honk, at best you just saved your life.
Pretty good trade off.
For that matter, I follow the same procedure when I’m in a car. Trust me, it has saved me on many occasions.
HAPPY SAFE RIDING
Could not agree with you more!
I was waiting for the light to turn green. There was a semi in the left turn lane (pulled far forward in the lane), I was in the center lane and a car was in the right turn lane. The light turned green, the semi laid on his air horn. I looked up at him wonder what his problem was when a 1 ton pick-up pulling a trailer filled with lawn care equipment came barreling through the intersection at about 50miles an hour. I could not see into the intersection because of the semi.
If not for him laying on his air horn I would not be writing about this today. I’m sure the cager in the right turn lane was equally as happy. I don’t go into intersections without being able to see what’s coming.
