"I also suggest women’s specific gear (designed to fit a woman’s build)"

That works if your a smaller size, I've been looking for larger (2x - 22 size) sized gear for woman and not having much luck. If I look at the size charts they are really not true to size and I am finding if very frustrating.

@Smalls: Great info. I would love any article ideas or other tips regarding riding gear that you may have... especially as it relates to women's gear. I don't think readers have found these older articles. But from the direct responses I get, selecting the right riding gear is a very important topic.

I truly believe I am MORE comfortable wearing motorcycle specific riding gear, than I am without. This would surprise many riders (that don't wear much gear). Therefore, it is important to share tips on how to find gear that actually fits and feels comfortable. Got ideas?

I agree wholeheartedly with Donn's article and have a couple things to add. I write women's gear reviews so I've had the opportunity to try multiple jackets, gloves, pants, and boots.

Yes, safety comes first! Regarding armor, they are not all equal. I recommend buying gear with CE approved armor (which has to meet certain safety standards).

Also, like Donn says, leave a little room in your gear to layer over clothes...but remember, motorcycle gear should be form fitting. When extra layers are removed, the gear should not be baggy or the armor won't stay in place in a slide.

Ladies, I also suggest women's specific gear (designed to fit a woman's build). Too many salespeople try to sell us smaller sizes of men's gear which won't fit correctly. For example, men have broader shoulders, and even in a smaller size, the shoulder armor often will not sit in the right place on a woman.

I also agree that fashion needs to come last. However, I'm excited to say that a lot of women's gear meets all the criteria: CE approved armor, comfort, excellent fit, and nighttime visibility...WHILE making a statement. Women's gear has come a long way, and we don't have to settle for one or the other, we can have it all!
